Amazing Illusions (Video’s)

It always astounds me the way you can trick the human mind, what you think you see may not always be right. Hope you enjoy these video’s as much as I did.

They were great, I especially liked the first one, I couldn’t work out how it was done, it’s all angles, the America’s got talent, that was just unreal. 🙂

  2. travelrat says:

Well, the third one’s been done … (I don’t know quite how, but I believe mirrors are involved) … in many a seaside side show. (Try saying that with a mouthful of muesli!)

But, the first two are just plain … ingenious!

An important message from early days in the Air Force was don’t rely on your eyes absolutely; get your instruments out and CHECK! And, they showed us several examples of where the eye sees what it wants to see, impossible as it may seem.

Prime example … works better if arranged in a triangle, but I can’t do that here:

(but, try beheading somebody with one! :D)

      Hi travelrat,
So true about the 3rd video, but no matter how many times I see it, I just cannot work out how it is done.
What we think we see sometimes, isn’t always the reality it could be something completely different, a good example of this, is when you can have say 3 different witnesses to the one event, but you will hear 3 different story’s, yet each person was looking at the same thing, you see this a lot on the TV news.
Did you know that dogs will rely on their smell and hearing more so than what they see, obviously smarter than us humans.

( I just cannot work out how it is done.)

I think it’s akin to the ‘sawing the lady in half’ trick … members of the Magic Circle are sworn not to reveal exactly how it is done, on pain of all sorts of nasty things!

The eyes usually do see what they “want” to see or what they “expect” to see… Amazing videos!

It’s been said that when ships from Europe first appeared on the horizon in America the people who lived here couldn’t “see” the ships because they had never seen anything like them. It makes more sense if you use the word “notice” instead of “see.” One day my husband shaved off his mustache and I didn’t notice it until after I had been with him for most of the day. Our brains only take in a small portion of what is actually available out there to see!

      Hi Barbara,
I have never heard that before about the ships how interesting. It is very true, our brains only take in a small portion of what is around us.
I bet your Husband has never let you live that one down. 🙂

Ha! Great minds think alike – I found that first illusion online and took it to work. The boss is very mechanically minded and he quite enjoyed the trickery involved.
