Robot Helpers to Aid the Elderly (Video’s)

A lot of different places around the world are all looking at how robots can help the elderly whether at home or those that are in nursing homes. I have selected 2, one from Australia, and one from France. There is a 3rd video, I just couldn’t resist putting it in as well.
Melbourne (Australia)
What a fantastic idea, this is being trialed at a Melbourne nursing home, and they are seeing if having the robots to interact with will help the elderly in anyway.

From France the Kompai Robot.
Kompai should be able to go where you tell him, help with the shopping list and even play games.
He also gives distant relatives the chance to see and hear their loved ones. And that is a key feature for keeping an eye on grandma or grandad. Euronews.

This was just so cute I thought I would add this video as well. 🙂

As we all know the internet is made of Cats, so it was only a matter of time ’til a robotkitty was built – great idea, no food, no cat litter.

      Hi gitwizard,
Very good, what a mess over a fly, and the moral of the story, my guess, that flies can live through anything. 😆 I actually felt sorry for poor kitty, so proud of catching the fly, and then eveything went wrong.

You are so right about robotkitty, no mess, no fuss, no food, no “accidents”. 🙂

Very interesting! I am trying to imagine Dad (88) and Auntie (96) interacting with these robots…

      Hi Barbara,
From what I have been reading, it seems to be helping out a lot of people. I read a couple of months ago, I can’t remember which country it was, but someone donated a few desk top computers to a nursing home, and apparently the transformation of some of the residences was amazing, I think it has more to do with keeping the mind active maybe. But if it helps even a few people it has to be a good thing.

I imagine if the elderly get on the internet they can find people with similar interests who they would not otherwise have met. It would definitely be as socially beneficial to them as it is to all of us.

          Hi Barbara,
Totally agree, sounds exactly right, it would be of social benefit, talking to people from all walks of life, from so many different Country’s, it would also take them to places they may of wished they could of gone but never got the chance, a computer would of opened up a whole new world for a lot of the people.
