Miracle Tsunami Dog’s Owner Found (Video)

How good is this, this poor dog lost at sea for 3 weeks, floating around of what was left of her owners home, finally gets rescued, and the biggest miracle of all is her owner is found, this is one lucky dog, a beautiful dog as well.

Two-year-old Ban yapped and jumped into the arms of her owner, a woman in her 50s and a resident of Kesennuma in Miyagi prefecture, a port town severely hit in the March 11 disaster, television footage showed.

A Japan Coast Guard elite rescue unit picked up the dog after spotting it on a floating house roof two kilometres from Kesennuma, in a rescue widely broadcast as a rare happy moment amid the calamity.

The woman recognised her pet, which was kept in an animal shelter following its rescue late last week, after watching NHK: “I recognised her immediately after seeing her face,” she said, hugging the animal.

This is even more amazing than Steggles the chicken being reunited with her owners after the Queensland floods. 🙂

  2. Selma says:

This made me cry. Can you imagine the joy of both the dog and the owner at being reunited? It seems like a miracle!

Only yesterday in your post about the rescue of this wonderful dog, I was saying I hope he (which we now know is a she) finds a good home. Well you couldn’t ask for better than this, what a great ending for not only the dog but the owner as well. I just thought that something awful had happened to this dog family’s seeing as how what was left of the house was floating out at sea. I was so surprised when I clicked onto your blog to see the owner had claimed the dog. I agree with Selma, this also brought tears to my eyes, Thanks for the update on this story.

      Hi Sue,
I also would of never thought of the owner claiming the dog. To think it all started because of a pile of rubbish out at sea, and someone on the helicopter decided to have a look, and then the actual owner seeing her dog being rescued out of that rubbish on TV. The whole story is amazing.

    That’s a happy story.

      Hi gitwizard,
      It certainly is.
It is not that often you see a happy ending especially after everything that Japan has had to go through, it really is a miracle.

  5. This is amazing! What a happy story! Gives new meaning to “lucky dog!”

      Hi Barbara,
Just imagine what the owner of the dog must of felt when she saw he dog on the news being rescued out at sea, the feeling must of been disbelief at first, just amazing.
