These poor people in New Zealand have not long suffered from a major earthquake which struck back in February 2011, now they have been hit again. This time around they were hit 3 times, 1 measuring 6.0 and 2 aftershocks following 1 at 5.5 magnitude and another at 4.4 magnitude. They are still cleaning up from the big earthquake that hit in February and had started to rebuild in some areas. Authorities are saying that they expect more aftershocks in coming days.
The streets were covered in dust, and Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker said there must have been a “significant” building collapse in the city centre, which is still cordoned off after the February quake. Read more in The Australian.
Two workers who were salvaging windows from St John’s Church, badly damaged in February, had to be rescued when the building’s facade collapsed. The pair was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises. Read more in the Courier Mail.
