New Earthquake Hits New Zealand:-June 2011 (Video/Pictures)

These poor people in New Zealand have not long suffered from a major earthquake which struck back in February 2011, now they have been hit again. This time around they were hit 3 times, 1 measuring 6.0 and 2 aftershocks following 1 at 5.5 magnitude and another at 4.4 magnitude. They are still cleaning up from the big earthquake that hit in February and had started to rebuild in some areas. Authorities are saying that they expect more aftershocks in coming days.

The streets were covered in dust, and Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker said there must have been a “significant” building collapse in the city centre, which is still cordoned off after the February quake. Read more in The Australian.

Two workers who were salvaging windows from St John’s Church, badly damaged in February, had to be rescued when the building’s facade collapsed. The pair was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises. Read more in the Courier Mail.

Look at that car and all the damage. I can’t believe Christchurch has been hit again. What is going on? I feel for all those affected so much. They are just not getting any time to rebuild or recover.

      Hi Selma,
They have been told to expect more, a lot of people have now left Christchurch, and said that they have had enough, who could blame them.

My heart goes out to them … been watching it on CNN, it’s beyond words.

  3. Mags, we were in Christchurch about a week before the big earthquake in February. We took tons of photos of the damage from the 2010 earthquake, which we thought was bad enough. Then, whomp, the big one. We ate at so many great restaurants that fell and met so many locals that we found ourselves worrying about constantly, hoping they got out. I keep the New Zealand newspapers on my favorites bar and check progress daily. The country won our hearts and we feel forever aligned in their fight to recover.

      Hi EOSR,
It is absolutely devastating what NZ has gone through this year, it’s good you were there before the 2010 earthquake hit and very lucky as well seeing that it was only a week before the earthquake. I have never had the pleasure of seeing NZ, but a lot of friends have been there, and they all say the same thing, that they met some really nice people, and everyone was more than happy to help out when they were trying to find something.
