Rings Made by Dolphins/Whales/Volcanoes (Fun Video)

I thought this video was really facinating. Toroidal Vortices “Rings” produced by dolphins, beluga whales, humpback whales, volcanoes, hydrogen bombs and of course man. Watch the dolphines and the whales playing with the rings that they have created, really beautiful. See smoke rings created by a volcano. I hope you enjoy the video as well.

A Toroidal Vortex is whirling air or liquid in the shape of a doughnut.  Vortices are created in nature by many things including dolphins, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and whirlpools.  They can be created around the wings of an airplane, in the wake of a boat, or in a rocket blast. by: Ellen Lewis

  1. That video ought to win an Oscar – it’s exquisitely done – the music and the actual footage blend seamlessly. Not to mention that the subject matter is AWESOME.

Anyone who has ever smoked cigarettes has likely learned how to blow a smoke circle. I had NO idea whales did this too.

Completely magical. It is like a ballet and symphony in one. I loved it!

Reminds me a little of when I smoked … curiously, I could blow smoke rings with cigars, but not with cigarettes??

The BBC would love this … if they have a little time between programmes, they put on a slide of ‘thinks going in circles’, be it hippos swimming in a circle, a helicopter landing on a circular pad, cyclists on a roundabout or a couple of Wall of Death riders!

      Hi travelrat,
Sounds like the BBC has an interesting little theme going, it would be a challenge to come up with something different after awhile.

  4. This is amazing! I found the dolphins, in particular, fascinating! So glad you shared this, thank you!
