Viking Burial Site Found:- Scottish Highlands (Video)

A burial site of a Viking which is believed to be at least 1,000 years old has been discovered. This is very exciting for the archaeologists as the Viking was buried with his boat, as well as an axe, sword, spear and shield. The burial site seems to be undisturbed which would make it a first for the British Mainland. The site where the grave was found was in the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands.

I don’t have time to watch the video at the moment, but I think the viking burial site is an awesome discovery. 🙂

      Hi E.C.,
Not enough time is something a lot of us have trouble with. 🙂
This is a very important discovery, and very exiciting for those involved because the grave site was never disturbed, they will learn a lot from this site.

    Waaaaaaay Coooooooool!

Thanks Mags. Perhaps I should claim to be descended from the Vikings, rather than say I’m of Scottish descent. Recent Y-DNA testing of males of my family name have seen us classified as R-U106 males with relatively high densities in Frisia in the Netherlands, England, Scotland, northern Germany and Norway. Cheers, Mal.

      Hi Mal,
From your family search that you have managed to do, you have a fantastic variety of back grounds to choose from. 🙂
The DNA testing is unreal what they can find out these days.

  4. I can feel my Scottish ancestors (mother’s side) stirring within me. This is a very exciting find.

      Hi Lady Marilyn,
‘It is amazing that this grave site had never been touched, a piece of ground that was never dug into, it certainly is a very exciting find.

Great stuff! Gawd, how the archaeologists must be excited too!!!

I come from a land of Vikings … I find the DNA testing intriguing and am almost tempted to do it.

And I thought they set fire to the ship, and pushed it out to sea. Guess I’ve been watching too many Hollywood movies! 😀

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi travelrat,
That is exactly what they show in the movies. 🙂
It is unreal when you think about it, they would have to dig a hole big enough for the boat, then drag it up to the burial site, put the boat inside the hole, they also used to fill the boats with stones, although I don’t know why.

My word that’s really interesting that there are still undisturbed Viking burial sites to be found. It’s amazing that they can even tell what kind of food he ate.

I’m floored over the ability of carbon testing…even to see from whence the viking lad cometh!
