Computer Meltdown

Mona Lisa in computer parts

Mona Lisa in computer parts (Photo credit: johnkoetsier) This is all my computer is good for now

My poor computer had a meltdown yesterday, and decided it was time to go to computer heaven. I spent most of yesterday going from shop to shop looking at computers, something that seemed like an easy thing to do, tuned out to be not so easy after all. I am still without a computer. One of my friends was kind enough to let me use their computer to publish this post.

Anyway late yesterday afternoon, I decided I would instead get a computer built, instead of buying one off the shelf, after going here there and everywhere, a computer is now being put together for me, this will take I am told a couple of days. I am sorry I won’t be able to get to read any blogs, or answer comments until I am up and running again. Then of course I will have the fun of working out the new system, getting everyoneโ€™s blogs back into my RSS feed etc. I only have very basic knowledge of computers, so I am expecting frustrating times ahead, actually that should read the nightmare is yet to come. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Don’t overspend, Normally $600’ish is more than enough for a decent system. New things constantly keep coming out so ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. zannyro says:

Good luck to you my friend..I.look forward to your return:)

  3. niasunset says:

My dear Mags, Good Luck! I hope and wish it would be fine soon… I will be waiting for you. My fingers crossed for your computer. Blessing and Happiness, with my love, nia

  4. Good luck! I definitely know how it feels to be computer-less.

  5. I will miss you, Mags! Best wishes for an easier transition than you’re anticipating! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. When computers crash on us it is horrible. I wish you luck on the new system and hope you are up and running soon.

  7. Just writing and posting within an existing set-up is challenge enough for me. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to your next post, whenever that maybe.

  8. Margie says:

I’m sure you will enjoy your new system, once it is up and running. Fortunately we are a two computer family. If mine goes belly up, I can hop over to the spouses computer.

  9. Windsmoke. says:

I’ll be waiting for your return see ya then :-).

  10. How frustrating, Mags. We’ll see you soon (and we’ll be waiting!) ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I am feeling you, mine crashed last week and i was down for 2-3 days. Staples has some deals on those on display, you will save quite a bit, them and wal-mart, and best buy, they cannot charge high prices on previously open items, even if they have not been used much by anyone..talk to them about a deal! We will be waiting for your return to share our love!

  12. Elyse says:

Good luck with it Mags. We’ll be here when you get back~

  13. aFrankAngle says:

Planned is one thing …. purchasing out of necessity is another. Good luck with the transition. Meanwhile, I will miss you.

  14. Best of wishes as you smooth the speed bumps out of your computer journey.

  15. jmgoyder says:

Good luck – you will be missed!

  16. reb says:

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that but still … it will be nice with the new one!
I’ve never done that … gone out shopping for one. We’ve bought all of ours [there’s been a few during these 8 years], online from DELL, and we’ve been happy with them.

    G. bought a new laptop a couple of months ago, and it was $500.

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi reb,
I now have my new computer, and it is a learning curve. ๐Ÿ˜€

      • reb says:

sometimes it is like that … if they have a new/different operative system on them — did you have Win7 before?

        • magsx2 says:

No, I was on Vista before, now Win7. I’m hoping to put in a post tomorrow about it all. I’m catching up with my comments, then I will try and catch up with everyone’s blogs, then back to trying to get things the way I want on the computer. ๐Ÿ™‚

          • reb says:

yeah, it’s like moving in to a new place — takes some time till you get your stuff to your liking ๐Ÿ™‚
            nightynight from here..

  17. Doraz says:

๐Ÿ™‚ Have fun getting the compuyer made the way you like. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Texasjune says:

If you lose anyone, we’ll find you again! I feel lost without my laptop handy!

  19. E.C. says:

Congrats on the new pc. I look forward to following your learning the new system. I bet you’ll do better than you think. I wish you the best! ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Linda Vernon says:

  21. barb19 says:

Bummer on the computer meltdown. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Having a computer built for me is something I’ve tallied with, but never actually gone ahead and done, so I will be interested to see how you go with yours.

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi barb19,
Yes it was a bit of a shock when the computer decided it was time to go. ๐Ÿ™‚
Hopefully I will be putting in a post in the morning about it all, new system, new browsers, it is going to take me a bit of time to get used to it all I think. ๐Ÿ˜€

  22. tempo says:

When mine melts down I go and have a new box made, it saves you buying all that stuff you already have and dont need/cant afford. You really dont need to change the screen, keyboard etc everytime you get a new PC. I hope you get the PC you want Mags

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi tempo,
Yes I only needed the computer, my screen was only replaced a few months back so it is still new, keyboard is still lasting out, although some of the letters can no longer be seen. ๐Ÿ˜€

  23. Tony McGurk says:

Bad news & they don’t come cheap. I guess having one built you can choose only want you want in/on it. We baough a ready to go one from Harvey Norman & it’s got so much stuff we never use on it. No doubt all the extras boosted the price.

  24. How terrifying! I’m supposed to avoid stress. It took me weeks to set up my computer. Just a little bit at a time. Then there was something wrong with it and I spent nine hours non-stop on the telephone with a technician. By the time that I got to the end, I was incapable of focussing on anything. I kept apologizing every five seconds but he was very patient. Just the mere thought of going through that again makes me want to curl up in a foetal position! Good luck, Mags!

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi Lady Marilyn,
Yes I was not looking forward to the setting up at all. With the computer that had the meltdown, it took me a long time to get everything right or the way I wanted.

  25. I will be waiting for your great words!!! good luck !!

  26. We will miss you and be looking forward to your return. Enjoy! (that was sarcasm – – – not that you deserve it – – – I just hate bringing up new technoware.)

  27. gitwizard says:

Sorry to hear of your PC problems, hope you had the important files backed up.
Will be interested to hear how you are getting on with your new system and would love to hear about the build and spec.

  28. Lynn says:

There is an empy space in our lives whe they aren’t close to us..We are dominated by them already and the funny thing is that we love them!!

  29. Lynn says:

    Sorry, I meant Empty :O

  30. Colline says:

Hope your new computer does not give you too much frustration ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. The Emu says:

Know the feeling when ya com shits itself , must admit I am intrigued in the statement that you can get a computer built , never heard of havin a com built to individual requirements, and it raises many queries
    Cheers
    Emu

  32. lolabees says:

Oh no! I guess they all have to go sometime! I hope you didn’t lose any valuable info ๐Ÿ™‚

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi lolabees,
It is a pity the computers don’t last forever ๐Ÿ™‚ It took me ages to get my old computer just the way I wanted it. ๐Ÿ˜€

  33. cestlavie22 says:

Sorry to hear about your computer troubles! What made you decide to have a computer built?

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi cestlavie22,
I wll hopefully put in a post about it all tomorrow morning, today or what is left of today, I’m just going to try and catch up with everyones blogs. ๐Ÿ˜€

  34. travelrat says:

I hope you didn’t lose anything important! I usually burn everything to CD, or copy to my detachable hard drive … stuff we’ve got to have, because we have three computers in the house.

I’m in the opposite situation. Since I’ll be buying a new Netbook in Singapore on the way back to UK, I’m looking for a way to deliberately fry the hard drive on the old one before I throw it away.

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi travelrat,
I did have everything backed up, on DVD. Yes it is best to make sure nobody can ever use your old hardrive, there is just too much we keep on our computers for someone to get hold of it all.

  35. jakesprinter says:

So Sorry for your computer Mags , We miss you ๐Ÿ™‚

  36. hotlyspiced says:

I’m so sorry to hear of your computer dramas. Is there anything worse? It seems you are back on. I hope your new computer is running well xx

  37. bronxboy55 says:

I would never have thought to have a computer built, but it makes sense. You’ll end up with exactly what you need. Give it a few weeks and your old computer will be a distant memory. Good luck, Mags.

I also had no idea that one could get a computer built to one’s own specs!

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi dearrosie,
Oh yes, I was very lucky there was a place close to home, just makes things easier. I’m sure you would find places that build computers where you live as well. ๐Ÿ™‚
