What an inspiration this Lady from Germany is, her name is Johanna Quaas, and she took up gymnastics when she was 30 years old. She is performing here during a break at the 2012 Cottbus Challenger Cup gymnastic competition, basically as a fill in. I think when you see her perform you will be amazed at how flexible her body is for a Lady of 86.
There is an article about Johanna in Mail Online, with some fantastic photos.
There is also an interview with Johanna, it is in German so for those that can understand German and would like to listen to the interview on You Tube: Johanna Quaas Interview.
Wow! Amazing!
Hi thesweetkitten,
That she is. 😀
Not only flexible … but strong too! Wow!!!
Hi Frank,
Very strong, it goes to show their is no such thing as “never too old”. 🙂
This is SO amazing. When I’m 86 I’d love to be in her shoes, but not that little leotard. Never again in one of those. But she sure pulls it off. Good for her! And thanks for sharing, Mags.
Hi Naomi,
I agree, I also would love to be her shoes at that age, she is just an amazing Lady. 🙂
Now I have another goal…be tri-lingual and a gymnast by the time I am 80. : )
Hi Bliss,
I would have trouble doing anything like that now, I just can’t imagine how she manages it, just remarkable. 🙂
She is setting quite a high bar for octagenarians.
Hi RichardB1001,
She certainly has, and I would love to reach it. 😀
Remarkable, indeed! I couldn’t have done this at any stage of my life, let alone now..
Hi reb,
You and I must belong to the same club, I also have never been able to do anything like this. 😀
She is so nice I admired so much. I can’t believe she is 86 years old… Blessing her. Thank you, with my love, nia
Hi Nia,
She does seem like a very nice Lady indeed, and very fit for her age. 🙂
Most people around her age can’t get out of bed or walk down the street let alone do this :-).
Hi Windsmoke,
She is amazing to watch isn’t she just incredible. 🙂
How inspiring! Surely I can start working out if this woman can still do gymnastics. Incredible.
Hi writingfeemail,
She certainly is an inspiration, if she can I can, although I really don’t think I can. 😀
Wow! It is hard to believe her age! She is so strong and flexible!
Hi Colline,
I agree, and to think she didn’t start until she was 30, it really is amazing, goes to show that some sports are not only for the young. 😀
I agree – we need to stop thinking that only the young can be fit and flexible!
I think I’ll show this to my 75 year old mom. I like to expose her to things like this and then act as if that’s what she should be doing! Hahaha!
Hi A Gripping Life,
That is really getting the spoon out and doing a lot of stirring. 😀
Haha! I know, right?
What’s the big deal? I can do that. Tee hee. Not hardly.
Hi robincoyle,
It would be great if we could all do that. 🙂
Mags – I’m off to the gym… 🙂
Hi This Sydney Life,
Yes watching this wonderfu Lady do her thing, makes you want to run to the gym. 😀
Amazing!
Hi jmgoyder,
She is that, very amazing. 😀
I’m going to go stand and stand at my exercise weights for awhile now…
Hi zannyro,
I felt exactly the same way. 😀
Eeeks, I feel like a slug! What an inspiration! Thanks for this video!
Hi Marge,
Definitely an inspiration, she is just fantastic.:D
Oh this made me smile how beautiful is this …..
she is amazing and inspiring 🙂
Hi Soma,
I totally agree, she is fantastic to watch. 😀
Amazing! I wasn’t that flexible at half her age!
Hi allthingsboys,
The achievements that she has accomplished is truly amazing.
Would like to reblog if that’s ok?
Hi allthingsboys,
I was just thinking about going to bed, it’s just after midnight here. 😀
Yes you may if like, it is an amazing video.
I couldn’t have done that when I was 18, let alone when I am 86. They say keeping active, mentally and physically, is THE key to longevity. She is a perfect example. Wonderful to watch. As others here have said, I’m off to the gym, NOW!
Hi EOSR,
Oh yes I have never done anything like this either, at any age, and I agree she is the perfect example.
…German ladies are tough cookies:)…what an inspiration – Johanna should be appearing at the Olympics for the German team – puts all those “athletes” to shame who are on performance enhancing drugs. Wimps!
Hi mariathermann,
She certainly does prove that age is no barrier, and I think she would be a big hit at the Olympics. 🙂
HI Mags! Incredible!! It’s nice to see when people still continue to do what they love to do regardless how old they are 🙂 I hope I will too!
Adri
Hi Adri,
It would be great if we could could all be that fit at that age, life would be wonderful. 😀
Wow, good for her! I would be afraid of frail bones, but she looks very fit for her age.
Hi Fergiemoto,
I agree, I also thought of frail bones, but with her level of fitness I assume this is not a problem. 😀
An inspiration for us all. 🙂 Thanks.
Hi Doraz,
She certainly is. 😀
Absolutely amazing video and performance.
Hi mj,
It is wonderful to watch her perform, not bad for 86. 😀
To have that ability at her age is mind-blowing. WOW. She is an inspiration!
Hi Selma,
She certainly is an inspiration, and she performed so beautifully as well. 🙂
OMGosh Mags!! That is truly amazing! I just can get over that!! what a inspiration!
I complain about my back lol 🙂 just WOW thanks for sharing!!
Hi Peggy,
Very much OMGosh, isn’t she amazing, I would like to be able to that now. 😀
I´d wish to be so fit like her when I grow up!! 🙂
Hi Lynn,
I wish for the same thing. 😀
Thank you so much dear Mags for your nice words on my emotional post yesterday. You are so nice. Have a nice day and weekend, Love, nia
Hi Nia,
It was a lovely post, so it was my pleasure.
You are so nice… Love you, nia
I am half this woman’s age and there is no way I could do what she does. She clearly shows that what you can achieve has nothing to do with age but everything to do with attitude xx
Hi hotlyspiced,
Oh yes I agree, I wonder when she started at the age of 30, how many people told her it was a young persons sport, I assume there would of been a few. 🙂
She is too amazing for words! And here I am at 55 hobbling around the house with all my aches and pains……….
Hi Barbara,
I think she certainly has broken the rule, that it isn’t only the younger generation that do these sorts of things. 😀
86?!?! I couldn;t do that when I was 26!
Go her!
Hi El Guapo,
Neither could I. 😆
She is amazing.
Amazing. I can do those thing at the age of 26, what she is doing at 86. Hats off to this wonderful lady.
Hi Arindam,
Hats off indeed, she is fabulous. 🙂
Absolutely wonderful! She’s a fine example of good health…
Hi megtraveling,
She certainly is, the close up photos of her in the paper are just amazing, she makes it look so easy. 😀
Really amazing and what an inspiration.
Hi Indira,
She is an inspiration, and I think a great role model as well. 🙂
She’s 86 and can do all that? Sheesh! What an inspiration for each and every one of us who read this post to get off our bums and do something! Even if its just walking!
Hi dearrosie,
Isn’t she marvelous, 86 and so strong and flexible, just incredible, and good her. I do a fair bit of exercise, especially walking, but there is no way I would be able to do anything like that. 😀
As amazing as she is, it is not true that Johanna didn’t start till she was 30 years old.
In her own words>>>>> Along the way a started doing gymnastics, that was allowed then. Then I did actively gymnastics until 32 or 33. Also at “Wissenschaft Halle” (another club), back then. But then I restarted in 1956.
