86 Year Old Gymnast (Video)

What an inspiration this Lady from Germany is, her name is Johanna Quaas, and she took up gymnastics when she was 30 years old. She is performing here during a break at the 2012 Cottbus Challenger Cup gymnastic competition, basically as a fill in. I think when you see her perform you will be amazed at how flexible her body is for a Lady of 86.

There is an article about Johanna in Mail Online, with some fantastic photos.

There is also an interview with Johanna, it is in German so for those that can understand German and would like to listen to the interview on You Tube: Johanna Quaas Interview.

Not only flexible … but strong too! Wow!!!

  2. This is SO amazing. When I’m 86 I’d love to be in her shoes, but not that little leotard. Never again in one of those. But she sure pulls it off. Good for her! And thanks for sharing, Mags.

  3. Stepping My Way to Bliss says:

    Now I have another goal…be tri-lingual and a gymnast by the time I am 80. : )

  4. RichardB1001 says:

She is setting quite a high bar for octagenarians.

  5. reb says:

Remarkable, indeed! I couldn’t have done this at any stage of my life, let alone now..

  6. niasunset says:

She is so nice I admired so much. I can’t believe she is 86 years old… Blessing her. Thank you, with my love, nia

  7. Windsmoke. says:

Most people around her age can’t get out of bed or walk down the street let alone do this :-).

  8. How inspiring! Surely I can start working out if this woman can still do gymnastics. Incredible.

  9. Colline says:

Wow! It is hard to believe her age! She is so strong and flexible!

  10. I think I’ll show this to my 75 year old mom. I like to expose her to things like this and then act as if that’s what she should be doing! Hahaha!

  11. robincoyle says:

What’s the big deal? I can do that. Tee hee. Not hardly.

  12. Mags – I’m off to the gym… 🙂

  16. Amazing! I wasn’t that flexible at half her age!

  17. Would like to reblog if that’s ok?

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi allthingsboys,
I was just thinking about going to bed, it’s just after midnight here. 😀
Yes you may if like, it is an amazing video.

  18. I couldn’t have done that when I was 18, let alone when I am 86. They say keeping active, mentally and physically, is THE key to longevity. She is a perfect example. Wonderful to watch. As others here have said, I’m off to the gym, NOW!

  19. …German ladies are tough cookies:)…what an inspiration – Johanna should be appearing at the Olympics for the German team – puts all those “athletes” to shame who are on performance enhancing drugs. Wimps!

  20. HI Mags! Incredible!! It’s nice to see when people still continue to do what they love to do regardless how old they are 🙂 I hope I will too!
    Adri

  21. Fergiemoto says:

  27. niasunset says:

Thank you so much dear Mags for your nice words on my emotional post yesterday. You are so nice. Have a nice day and weekend, Love, nia

  28. hotlyspiced says:

I am half this woman’s age and there is no way I could do what she does. She clearly shows that what you can achieve has nothing to do with age but everything to do with attitude xx

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi hotlyspiced,
Oh yes I agree, I wonder when she started at the age of 30, how many people told her it was a young persons sport, I assume there would of been a few. 🙂

  29. She is too amazing for words! And here I am at 55 hobbling around the house with all my aches and pains……….

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi Barbara,
I think she certainly has broken the rule, that it isn’t only the younger generation that do these sorts of things. 😀

  30. El Guapo says:

    86?!?! I couldn;t do that when I was 26!
    Go her!

  31. Arindam says:

Amazing. I can do those thing at the age of 26, what she is doing at 86. Hats off to this wonderful lady.

  32. megtraveling says:

Absolutely wonderful! She’s a fine example of good health…

  33. Indira says:

Really amazing and what an inspiration.

  34. dearrosie says:

She’s 86 and can do all that? Sheesh! What an inspiration for each and every one of us who read this post to get off our bums and do something! Even if its just walking!

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi dearrosie,
Isn’t she marvelous, 86 and so strong and flexible, just incredible, and good her. I do a fair bit of exercise, especially walking, but there is no way I would be able to do anything like that. 😀

  35. Lana says:

As amazing as she is, it is not true that Johanna didn’t start till she was 30 years old.

In her own words>>>>> Along the way a started doing gymnastics, that was allowed then. Then I did actively gymnastics until 32 or 33. Also at “Wissenschaft Halle” (another club), back then. But then I restarted in 1956.
