I had no idea they were so unwieldy. Thanks for sharing!
Hi allthingsboys,
It’s unreal isn’t it. 🙂
Clearly not the brightest of animals on this planet. thanks for sharing. wonder what the leopards are going to use for their daily swim now?
Hi mariathermann,
You are right about that one. 🙂
I assume they would of had to fix the pool up, but no doubt the leopards would of missed a few days of being able to go in the water.
Perhaps that giraffe had been out shopping. My feet always burn and hurt, too, when I’ve been out shopping and I don’t want to leave the comfort of the cold water in a bowl either.
Yes after all she was pregnant, and a new Mum has to be prepared, which requires a fair bit of shopping. 😀
She looked as though she was enjoying paddling around in the water. What a business, getting her out. 😉
Hi adinparadise,
I think it was cooling her down a bit, they said it was a hot day, it seemed to take them awhile to get her out, no doubt they tried a few different things first.
I love a happy ending! Great post, Mags!
Hi Naomi,
Oh yes happy endings are always good. 😀
And he wandered off without even a thank you.
Giraffes. Sigh.
Hi El Guapo,
Yes, a bit ungrateful our giraffes. 🙂
Oh my stars and garters! I, too, am glad for the happy ending. Like they say, “No animals were hurt during the filming of that video clip.” 🙂
Hi Laurie,
It must of taken them ages to her out, it was well and truly night when she finally walked out of the pool, and you are so right with that statement. 😀
Seems silly what they did, just add sand to the pool and the giraffe can walk out…in other words build an internal ramp,
Hi bulldogsurf,
They did say they made a makeshift ladder of some sort, sand sounds like a good idea, maybe it would take too many truckloads of it to get it there, the giraffes weigh a fair bit and she was 14 months pregnant, maybe they thought she might get stuck in the sand. But still they got her out and I bet she doesn’t try that one again. 🙂
Love happy endings …. She was handling the whole thing very well – after all she was pregnant and thank god the leopard wasn’t around.
Hi viveka,
I was thinking the same thing about the leopard, maybe too much activity going on and it stayed away, but I agree she did handle it all very well, there was no panic at all. 🙂
They must had moved it .. otherwise nobody could move around there … it all depends on how wild it’s… but still.
You may be right, they may have moved it. It was lucky that someone saw the giraffe before the leopard did, always nice to have a good outcome.
Love happy endings!
Hi viveka,
Yes, it certainly was. 😀
Welcome to the most technologically superior world in history!
Hi Scott,
Oh that is good. 😆
It does make you wonder.
What a naughty girl! 😉
Hi lolabees,
That she was. 🙂
Good one, Mags! I don’t know how you keep coming up with such gems! Cheers, Mal.
Hi Mal,
Glad to hear you enjoyed the post. 😀
She didn’t seem stressed, did she? I guess it must be hard to climb out of deep places with those long legs. What a great vid!
Hi Selma,
No there certainly wasn’t any panic there at all, she even went to the other end of the pool while they were breaking the cement, I think she sensed that they were trying to help her.
Pretty cool…all things Africa!!
Hi Travel Spirit,
Of course this post fits perfectly with your trip you have just had. 😀
Glad you enjoyed the post.
Awwwwwwwwwwww. Can I have her?
Hi robincoyle,
It would be nice to have a giraffe, certainly would be something different. 😀
What an ordeal … She looked really cool, as she walked away finally 😉
Hi reb,
She did didn’t she, I think she may have sensed that they were trying to help her, and she did walk away very casually, she didn’t run, it was as if nothing happened. 🙂
She is a very elegant pregnant lady giraffe. She is already 14 months pregnant; how much longer does she have to go before the new baby arrives?
Hi Ronnie,
I just had a quick google and it seems a giraffe carries it’s young for 15 months, so she is very close to giving birth, that must of been on the minds of the rescuers as well.
She’d be right at home at my pond. Send her over here!
Hi writingfeemail,
Of course you have the perfect pond for her to cool off in, but can she get out is the question. 😀
Well now I’ve seen everything!
Hi jmgoyder,
Unbelievable isn’t it. 😀
Poor gorgeous Lucy – you have an bit of an accident and some cheeky person films it for all the world to see – what is a girl to do?
Hi loonyliterature,
Yes it just doesn’t seem right does it. 😀
No, it’s like tripping up, showing all your knickers and someone taking a photo and putting it on the web. Don’t they realise Lucy is an old fashioned lady?
I certainly agree about Lucy being an old fashioned lady, she keep her dignity all through the day and into the night it seems and did seem to exit with her head held high. 😀
Oh, I know – she is gorgeous. I wish she could talk.
Cool video! Love the way she walked off nonchalantly like nothing ever happened 🙂
Hi Madhu,
I agree, it was unreal watching her, you would expect an animal to panic a bit especially a pregnant one, but no she kept her cool. 😀
Beautiful creature, that Giraffe. I love it when folks pull together to help save a stranded animal. There’s a certain kind of magic that takes over and fills the hearts with hope and joy. 🙂
Hi E.C.
Oh yes I totally agree, it took a bit to get this girl out, but she and the people did a good job. 🙂
Ah heck, the owner’ weren’t using the pool anyway.
Hi Frank,
Yes that is very true. 😀
Thanks mag for so much information and a lovely video. I didn’t know that Giraffe deliver after 15 months. People did a nice job.
Hi Indira,
Yes it is a long pregnancy for the giraffes, and I agree the people did do a good job of getting her out. 🙂
You always find such great videos!
Hi Oster’s Mom,
Thank You, I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😀
This is so lovely (the rescue) but do you know, I can’t help imagining how it was when she stumbled in – like, did her head go under water, & how did she stabilise herself & so on. It must have been really freaky for her. She so gorgeous!
I love it when humans are kind.
Hi WordsFallFromMyEyes,
I wondered the same thing, she didn’t look injured at all, it may always remain a mystery. She is beautiful isn’t she, but it all worked out in the end and I think everyone would of been relieved when they watched her walk out.
Hello Mags. The things you find and share with us never ceases to amaze me. I am grateful the giraffe made it out safely.
Hi Lenore,
It may have taken awhile but it all worked out. 🙂
A Happy Ending. :+) I’m Glad Lucy made it out OK.
Hi starlaschat,
You just cannot beat a happy ending. 🙂
I haven’t seen before … and known too. Thank you dear Mags you always bring us such a beautiful and interesting stories in life. Love, nia
Hi Nia,
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. 😀
So glad they got her out. Thanks Mags for another fun video.
Hi Elyse,
It was amazing how she just walked out as if nothing happened. 🙂
HI Mags! What a happy ending to the story! I felt so bad seeing her walking in circles..poor Lucy. I’m really happy she made it out safe 🙂
Adri
Hi Adri,
She just seemed so calm about it all, it was certainly a good ending though. 🙂
and here I always thought Giraffes were smart
The Squishy Monster,
Yes it’s hard to imagine how it all came about. 🙂
Aww that was adorable. Maybe she just wanted to take a little swim. Quite a task getting her out though!
Hi cestlace22,
Yes it seems she just wanted to cool down a bit, good ending to it all though. 🙂
Oh, wow. Never seen something like this. Really cool. I’m glad she’s safe…
Hi island traveler,
She was so calm throughout the whole ordeal, it was amazing. 🙂
YAY!!! Lucy’s free. We used to love Wild at Heart when it was on. Shelley & I love giraffes, they are such beautiful animals.
Hi Tony,
I agree, they are beautiful animals and so graceful as well.
LOL! Haha! She really caused some trouble. Those long beautiful legs couldn’t help her out in this situation though HA!
Hi Linda,
Oh yes her long legs were no good in this situation, but you have to hand it to the guys they got her out. 😀
People are so good to the animals. It just restores your faith in mankind every time something like this happens! 😀
I totally agree. 🙂
Couldn’t they have managed to coax her up a ramp? Horses go up ramps all the time, and she’s horse – sort of. Did the poor cats have to stay inside until she was freed? She looked distressed, circling the pool like that. The production company is going to get one enormous bill!
Hi Lady Marilyn,
It did look pretty deep and not very long, I don’t know if a plank would of worked, I’m sure they would of tried a few different things before they starting demolishing the pool, and oh yes it would of cost them.
I never thought I’d see a photo of a giraffe in a swimpool. You sure do find interesting things to share with us.
Hi dearrosie,
Now you have seen the giraffe in the pool, it will be hard to forget next time you are at a zoo and see a giraffe. 😀
Happy to see they got the giraffe out safely!
Hi Michael,
She was just so cool about it all, and then just walked out as if nothing at all happened, I thought it was great. 😀
Someone must have gotten it all completely wrong. How can you expect a giraffe to take a bath if you don’t build the pool deep enough, and then make big enough steps so it can get out again? This is hilarious.
Hi munchow,
I totally agree. 😆
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, it certainly is “different”.
