This little water- skiing squirrel is called Twiggy, and she skis along on a miniature pair of water skis, and the small power boat is remote controlled.
The video below was taken in 2012
This video below is from 2010, but there is a good interview and an explanation on how it all started.
Dear Mags, we had to watch this video only about five times! So cute!
Hi Naomi,
I watched it a few times myself, she is so cute.
I wonder if I could teach my dog to do this?
Hi writingfeemail,
It would be great, I have seen dogs water-skiing on large boards. 🙂
I’m sitting outside in my yard, looking at the squirrels raid my “squirrel proof” bird feeder. I’m pretty sure squirrels can do just about anything!
Hi Elyse,
It sure seems like they can. 🙂
Mags, it was really cute. I have to come back to your blog tomorrow to watch this video again. 🙂
Hi Arindam,
She does look gorgeous on those little skis. 😀
Well, if that doesn’t beat all!
Hi Laurie,
Certainly not something you see everyday. 😀
I loved it!!! 😀
Hi reb,
It does bring a smile to your face. 😀
At first I did not realise it was a live squirrel! 🙂
Hi Colline,
It is hard to imagine a little squirrel water-skiing. 😀

Amazing Squirrel…. 🙂
Oh dear Mags, this is unbelievable… so lovely, how fascinated. Thank you so much, Love, nia
Hi Nia,
Glad you enjoyed it, she is a little cutie. 😀
Go Twiggy (mark 8!) – who would’ve think it?
Hi This Sydney Life,
It is incredible, and to think she has trained different squirrels, that certainly wouldn’t be easy I assume. 😀
Loved the video but more so the message behind the video. I had a nephew drown in the Gulf of Mexico…no life jackets…4 young people all in one electric blue spring day.
Great video and message. Thanks for bringing it to us!
Hi purpleborough,
Yes I thought it was a good idea for the little life jacket on the squirrel, it does send out a message.
Very talented and cute indeed :-).
Hi Windsmoke,
I agree, it is just wonderful to watch. 😀
Just precious, Mags. Twiggy, also happens to be the name of one of my Pem Corgis. And a devil she is.
Hi elcampeador,
She is just unreal isn’t she this little squirrel. 😀
Twiggy is a very cute name for a gorgeous corgi. 🙂
Reblogged this on et cetera* and commented:
Except these few, just to cute for words..
Well … definitely another example of it takes all kinds to make the world go! Then again, they are carrying a message, so whatever works!!!
Hi Frank,
You have to admit little “Twiggy” is very cute on those skis. 😀
Oh my gosh! And she’s enjoying it as much as people do! Animals are so much smarter than we give them credit for (and well-rounded!) HA! 😀
Hi Linda,
She does look like she is enjoying the whizz around the pool, and I totally agree with, animals are very smart. 😀
That squirrel has amazing technique! Give her a medal.
Hi Ronnie,
Yes indeed, she should have a medal. 🙂
Squirrel is more skilled than me! I can’t do that
Hi Yatin,
This little squirrel is wonderful isn’t she, the way she hangs on and skis around the pool. 🙂
The story behind how all this came about is wonderful. How tragic that her husband who loved the water so much ultimately drowned. So sad. Twiggy is a great way to teach children about water safety xx
Hi hotlyspiced,
Yes it is a sad story, but this lady has managed to make a great impact doing something that just came about by accident, thanks to her husband.
I love the way she puts the little life jacket on Twiggy, it is just so tiny, it wouldn’t be easy I imagine.
Is it just me or would it be fun to see him reenact the 100 meter water ski jump from that James bond movie..
Hi tempo,
Wow, you think big. 🙂
I bet she could do it. 😀
Aww isnt this the cutest video ever…and the way it kept looking around
oh loved it 🙂
Hi Soma,
She is beautiful, and enjoying herself as well. 😀
I’d seen the 2012 video before but not the explanation video of 2010. I was interested to learn that Twiggy performances today are about swimming safety. Fun, and a good cause. A little creepy too that someone has a squirrel for a pet.
Hi EOSR,
I also thought it was a good video explaining how it all started. I don’t know if someone having a pet squirrel is creepy, we don’t have these in OZ, but to me they look cute. 😀
They are rodents. Cute but……..
A bit like our possums, only a lot smaller. 🙂
Thanks, Magsx2 – a delightful way to start my work week!
Hi El Guapo,
You just can’t help but smile while watching her skiing around in the pool. 😀
The story made the entire thing worth it. I feel sorry for her losing her husband, but what I wonder is how many lives have been saved in 31 years because of that?
Scott
Hi Scott,
Yes I agree, some lives may have been saved, and a great way to get the message across.
Hello! He’s so cute! It’s funny to see how it all started, look at Twiggy go he loves the water!
Adri
Hi Adri,
Definitely loves to have fun on the water this little squirrel, you can tell. 🙂
I don’t think anything could leave me with such warm, happy feelings as much as this did. What joy! Oh, I do love squirrels!
Hi SDS,
She is a little cutie, and she obviously loves being the star. 😀
I enjoyed watching the interview what an interesting story. Amazing she could teach eight squirrels to ski!
Hi starlaschat,
Yes I think that is also a talent to be able to teach water-skiing to a squirrel. 🙂
The squirrel looks so comfortable on those little water skis. The life jacket is a great idea for getting an important safety reminder out to people – a message they’ll be sure to remember after seeing Twiggy wearing one.
Hi Barbara,
I’m sure all the kids would remember Twiggy getting her life jacket put on, and I’m sure after seeing her at a show, they would then talk about this amazing squirrel on skis with a life jacket to their friends as well. 🙂
Oh, my. I wonder what generation this is of “Twiggy the Water-skiing Squirrel.” I’m now going on 48 and saw Twiggy perform when I was around 14 or 15 years old. Thought it was the greatest thing.
Hi Michelle,
Yes there has been a few Twiggy’s, she did mention Twiggy number 8 in the second video from 2010. She does an excellent jog of training them, Twiggy looks unreal going around on those little skis. 😀
I like how some of the “Twiggies” use their tails as rudders. There seem to be four different ones in the videos – two with tails up and two with tails down. One of them might have done both, which makes only three. The “rudder” ones don’t seem as frightened as the “tail up” ones. Poor things!
Hi Lady Marilyn,
The lady in the video said she was on to number 8 that was 2010, she said she has been doing it for 31 years, that is a long time. 🙂
At first I thought it wasn’t a real squirrel because I thought squirrels would be really afraid of the water but I can see that Twiggy loves it. What a star!!!
Hi Selma,
Yes I also think she is a star, and loving all the attention as well. 😀
