Water-skiing Squirrel: America (Video)

This little water- skiing squirrel is called Twiggy, and she skis along on a miniature pair of water skis, and the small power boat is remote controlled.

The video below was taken in 2012

This video below is from 2010, but there is a good interview and an explanation on how it all started.

  1. Dear Mags, we had to watch this video only about five times! So cute!

  2. I wonder if I could teach my dog to do this?

  3. Elyse says:

I’m sitting outside in my yard, looking at the squirrels raid my “squirrel proof” bird feeder. I’m pretty sure squirrels can do just about anything!

  4. Arindam says:

Mags, it was really cute. I have to come back to your blog tomorrow to watch this video again. 🙂

  5. Well, if that doesn’t beat all!

  6. reb says:

    I loved it!!! 😀

  7. Colline says:

At first I did not realise it was a live squirrel! 🙂

    Amazing Squirrel…. 🙂

  9. niasunset says:

Oh dear Mags, this is unbelievable… so lovely, how fascinated. Thank you so much, Love, nia

  10. Go Twiggy (mark 8!) – who would’ve think it?

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi This Sydney Life,
It is incredible, and to think she has trained different squirrels, that certainly wouldn’t be easy I assume. 😀

  11. Loved the video but more so the message behind the video. I had a nephew drown in the Gulf of Mexico…no life jackets…4 young people all in one electric blue spring day.
Great video and message. Thanks for bringing it to us!

  12. Windsmoke. says:

Very talented and cute indeed :-).

  13. elcampeador says:

Just precious, Mags. Twiggy, also happens to be the name of one of my Pem Corgis. And a devil she is.

Reblogged this on et cetera* and commented:
Except these few, just to cute for words..

  15. aFrankAngle says:

Well … definitely another example of it takes all kinds to make the world go! Then again, they are carrying a message, so whatever works!!!

  16. Linda Vernon says:

Oh my gosh! And she’s enjoying it as much as people do! Animals are so much smarter than we give them credit for (and well-rounded!) HA! 😀

  17. That squirrel has amazing technique! Give her a medal.

  18. Yatin says:

Squirrel is more skilled than me! I can’t do that

  19. hotlyspiced says:

The story behind how all this came about is wonderful. How tragic that her husband who loved the water so much ultimately drowned. So sad. Twiggy is a great way to teach children about water safety xx

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi hotlyspiced,
Yes it is a sad story, but this lady has managed to make a great impact doing something that just came about by accident, thanks to her husband.
I love the way she puts the little life jacket on Twiggy, it is just so tiny, it wouldn’t be easy I imagine.

  20. tempo says:

Is it just me or would it be fun to see him reenact the 100 meter water ski jump from that James bond movie..

  21. Aww isnt this the cutest video ever…and the way it kept looking around
    oh loved it 🙂

  22. I’d seen the 2012 video before but not the explanation video of 2010. I was interested to learn that Twiggy performances today are about swimming safety. Fun, and a good cause. A little creepy too that someone has a squirrel for a pet.

  23. El Guapo says:

Thanks, Magsx2 – a delightful way to start my work week!

  24. The story made the entire thing worth it. I feel sorry for her losing her husband, but what I wonder is how many lives have been saved in 31 years because of that?
    Scott

  25. Hello! He’s so cute! It’s funny to see how it all started, look at Twiggy go he loves the water!
    Adri

  26. Snoring Dog Studio says:

I don’t think anything could leave me with such warm, happy feelings as much as this did. What joy! Oh, I do love squirrels!

  27. starlaschat says:

I enjoyed watching the interview what an interesting story. Amazing she could teach eight squirrels to ski!

  28. The squirrel looks so comfortable on those little water skis. The life jacket is a great idea for getting an important safety reminder out to people – a message they’ll be sure to remember after seeing Twiggy wearing one.

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi Barbara,
I’m sure all the kids would remember Twiggy getting her life jacket put on, and I’m sure after seeing her at a show, they would then talk about this amazing squirrel on skis with a life jacket to their friends as well. 🙂

  29. Oh, my. I wonder what generation this is of “Twiggy the Water-skiing Squirrel.” I’m now going on 48 and saw Twiggy perform when I was around 14 or 15 years old. Thought it was the greatest thing.

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi Michelle,
Yes there has been a few Twiggy’s, she did mention Twiggy number 8 in the second video from 2010. She does an excellent jog of training them, Twiggy looks unreal going around on those little skis. 😀

  30. I like how some of the “Twiggies” use their tails as rudders. There seem to be four different ones in the videos – two with tails up and two with tails down. One of them might have done both, which makes only three. The “rudder” ones don’t seem as frightened as the “tail up” ones. Poor things!

    • magsx2 says:

      Hi Lady Marilyn,
The lady in the video said she was on to number 8 that was 2010, she said she has been doing it for 31 years, that is a long time. 🙂

  31. Selma says:

At first I thought it wasn’t a real squirrel because I thought squirrels would be really afraid of the water but I can see that Twiggy loves it. What a star!!!
